New mental maps =’s new behaviors =’s new outcomes. Focus, focus, focus on the new ones. Over time, the new mental maps that you’ve created will become stronger than the old mental maps. Don’t waste time and energy worrying about the old habits. To break out of this recurring cycle, you need to create new mental maps that carve out new shortcuts for your brain. As a consequence, you fall back to the old habits because your old mental maps are still there in your head…guiding you down the shortcuts that your brain has built over the years, and even decades. It’s really easy to get distracted from your best intentions, and because many advisors are (or feel) quite isolated…they (you) aren’t really accountable to anyone. To create new behaviors, you need to create new mental maps.Your mental maps cannot disappear at the snap of your fingers. This automation happens as a result of the mental maps that your brain creates to guide your actions.Actually, your brain requires shortcuts because your capacity to hold numerous conscious thoughts together at the same time…is very, very limited. They exist because your brain likes shortcuts and automates your behaviors. Many habits that we have are neither “bad” nor “good”.A key to creating new habits is to ignore the old ones. Here’s what I’m talking about…in ten key points.
